The Tasty Treat Of Delicious Waffles
| By Ben Cook | Category: BlendersAny mother knows that on weekends their kids are going to want waffles or pancakes for breakfast. After the hustle and bustle of the week is over, it is nice to sit down with the family and have a good old breakfast. One can find many different variations of waffles that can be made. All will be gobbled up by your willing taste testers.
Waffles are made on a waffle iron. The batter is made by mixing together eggs, flour, oil, milk, sugar and baking powder. Once mixed, a batter is made. Additions such as chopped nuts, chocolate chips, blueberries, applesauce or banana slices can be added to make them unique.
Once the batter is made, about a cup is poured onto the hot waffle iron. It is easy to find many different types of irons in the stores today. A regular iron will create a waffle about one inch thick and round. It will give the diner about four pieces of waffle.
A Belgium iron makes a big, fluffy waffle. These monster waffles are about two inches thick. They are round and in four pieces. A traditional iron will make one big square. They are approximately 12 inches by 12 inches and made into four smaller squares. Each iron takes about five minutes to cook a waffle.
Traditionally waffles stuck to the irons. People would put butter on them to try to stop the sticking. The invention of Teflon was great as it created an iron in which the batter did not stick. The waffle easily pops out. There is no need to get frustrated with a messy waffle iron. Typically there is very little mess. The trick is to pour a little bit of batter on the hot iron and spread it over the iron with a spatula a little at a time.
There are many options for topping a waffle. Some folks like the traditional butter and maple syrup for their waffle. Creativity can come into play. A waffle can be topped with whipped topping and fruit like sliced strawberries, bananas or blueberries. For a healthy option, the waffle could have yogurt placed in lieu of the whipped topping. Adding fruit or nuts is always a wonderful way to top the waffle. They are extremely delicious. There are many types of syrups on the store shelves to choose from. The old standby is maple but there are strawberry and blueberry syrups for a change.
Waffle day is a crowd pleaser. Most folks love them. Adding toppings are a fun way to spice it up. Pick ones that are new such as coconut or add the old favorites blueberries and Cool Whip. Whichever way you like them, waffles can be a fun breakfast for all ages.
